Cpl. Javier Carpintero, a native of El Paso, Texas, is one of the motivated Marines that has earned instructor status in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. Carpintero, a Motor Transport Operator with Headquarters Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division, didn’t start off as the Marine you see today.

Martial arts teacher named as Unsung Hero award winner

A Scunthorpe man who runs a martial arts club has been named today as the BBC Look North (East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire) Unsung Hero award winner. Stuart Usher, an engineer from Scunthorpe’s Ore Preparation Plant, has beaten off tough competition to be shortlisted for this national BBC award and is now heading for the national finals of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero awards in December.
